Do you ever have those days where the 2:00 PM slump feels more like a 2:00 PM brick wall? You had all these big plans for the afternoon, but suddenly your brain feels like it’s made of cotton candy and your motivation has completely left the building.

If this is happening to you more often right now, you aren’t alone. In the world of ADHD coaching, we often see a massive energy shift in May. Why? Because May is a high-transition month. Between the shifting light of spring, the pressure to “wrap things up” before summer, and the influx of social invitations, our ADHD sensory systems are working overtime. This extra “background noise” drains our battery faster, making those afternoon dips feel deeper and more frustrating than they did in January. 

For the ADHD entrepreneur, energy isn’t a flat line; it’s a wave. We have peaks of hyper-focus and valleys of deep tiredness. The mistake we make is trying to force our “valley” brains to perform like “peak” brains. Instead of fighting the dip and shaming yourself for not being a robot, I want you to learn how to pivot.

Hack #19: Work at a Different Time of Day

One of the greatest gifts of being a solopreneur is that you own the clock. If your brain is “offline” from 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM, why are you sitting at your desk suffering?

Try the Energy Pivot. Step away from the computer during your natural dip and come back later in the evening or earlier the next morning when your clarity returns. Working for two hours in your “peak” time is infinitely more effective than “pretending to work” for six hours during a dip. Give yourself permission to work when your brain is actually invited to the party.

Hack #13: Move While Working

Sometimes the tiredness we feel isn’t mental, it’s actually physical stagnation. The ADHD brain thrives on proprioceptive input (movement!). If you’re feeling a dip, try changing the way your body is positioned.

Use a standing desk, sit on an exercise ball, or even pace around the room while you’re on a brainstorming call. This low-level physical stimulation provides the “background noise” your brain needs to stay engaged. It keeps your nervous system alert without overtaxing your mental energy. If you’re feeling stuck, get moving!

Movement Hacks
If you are stuck in a valley and have to finish a task, you need to change your physiology.

  • Hack #11 (Go for a Walk): Even a five-minute stroll around the block changes your visual field and resets your focus.

  • Hack #12 (Do Jumping Jacks): If you can’t leave the house, do ten jumping jacks. This quick burst of cardiovascular movement forces a rush of oxygen to the brain and breaks the “freeze” state of burnout. It’s like a mini-reset button for your nervous system.

The EFT Tool: Tapping for the “Slump” Guilt

When the energy dip hits and you start spiraling into “I’m so behind” or “I’m failing my business” thoughts, let’s ground you. We need to clear the brain fog so you can decide your next move with a clear head.

Where to tap: The Collarbone Point (on the soft tissue just below the collarbone).

Why it supports you: Sometimes, one tapping point is all you need. This one is excellent for clearing the “fog” that comes with burnout and helping you find your second wind.

The Script: While tapping on the collarbone point, say these words out loud or in your head, “Even though I’m feeling tired and unfocused… and I’m worried I’m not doing enough… I release the guilt of this energy dip. I trust my rhythm. I am allowed to move, I am allowed to shift, and I am still a successful business owner even when I’m not ‘on’.”

Repeat the script several times and if you’re still feeling guilt, go through all the points without words. Relax your body and then return to the script one more time.
