Hey, friend. Can we talk about something for a second?
It’s June. Somehow it’s already June. And if you’re anything like me, or the women I know – smart, driven, full of big dreams and even bigger hearts – there’s a good chance you’ve opened your notes app, your January goals, or maybe just stared at the ceiling at 2am, and thought:
“I should be so much further along by now.”
Yeah. Me too.
That thought has a way of sneaking in right around this time of year, doesn’t it? Like clockwork. Instagram posts start showing up; someone’s hitting a huge milestone, someone else just launched their dream thing, and suddenly your beautiful, messy, very real life and business feels somehow… not enough.
Here’s what I want you to know before we go any further: that feeling makes complete sense. Especially if your brain is wired the way mine is. Especially if ADHD or just plain old life has made your timeline look a little… unconventional.
This blog is not here to give you the one thing that will fix it all. It’s here to sit with you in the realness of it all, and then gently hand you some tools that actually work.
Why Midyear Hits Different
For a lot of us, especially those with ADHD or neurodivergent tendencies, the year doesn’t move in a straight line. We sprint, we stall, we have a wildly productive Tuesday followed by a week where we can barely remember what day it is.
So when June rolls around and the culture suddenly says “time to evaluate your progress!”… the nervous system goes, oh no.
Comparison activates stress. Full stop. When you see someone else’s highlight reel next to what feels like your blooper reel, your body doesn’t know it’s just social media. It responds like a threat. Chest tight. Mind spinning. That familiar voice that says you’re behind, you’re failing, what have you even been doing?
And here’s the thing about that voice — it’s lying. But it’s loud.
A Little Pause Before We Fix Anything
Before we jump into solutions or hacks (because yes, I have some good ones), I want to try something with you.
Place your hand on your heart or your collarbone, or wherever feels grounding — and just say this out loud or in your head:
“I’m allowed to be where I am.”
Not “I’m where I should be.” Not “I’ve done enough.” Just… I’m allowed to be here. Right now. Exactly as I am.
Take a breath.
That’s it. That’s the first step. Because if we try to course-correct from a place of shame, we just spiral. But if we can take one tiny breath of self-permission first, the rest gets a lot easier.
Okay, Now Here’s Some Tools To Actually Help You
Here are some of my favorite hacks for the midyear slump, that are ADHD-friendly, feel-good, and genuinely effective.
Hack #32 Go back to your WHY.
This is the season for it. Not your goals — your why. Why do you do what you do? Why does it matter to you? When you reconnect with that, the noise of comparison gets a little quieter. Because suddenly you remember: you’re not running someone else’s race. You never were.
Hack #16 Let yourself have fun first.
Yes, I mean it. Let yourself actually enjoy this summer! Go on the hike, take the trip, do the thing that makes you feel alive — you will have so much more energy to get back to work when it’s time. Fun is not a reward you earn after you’re productive. Fun is what makes you productive. Rest is productive. Play is productive. Your nervous system needs it.
Hack #20 Tap into your creative side.
When we’re in comparison mode, the brain gets very small and scarcity-focused. Everything feels restrictive. Everything feels like proof you’re behind. But creativity opens a different door. Write something weird. Make something with your hands. Dance in your kitchen. It sounds too simple, but it genuinely shifts the energy — and from that softer, more expansive place, you start to see how much you actually have going on.
Hack #23 And for the love of everything — sleep.
Rest is not laziness. It is the most underrated productivity hack there is. A rested brain thinks more clearly, feels more hopeful, and makes better decisions. If you are exhausted, everything looks like evidence of failure. Go to bed early. The to-do list will still be there in the morning and you’ll move through it faster.
One More Breath
Before you close this blog, I want to remind you of something:
Progress isn’t always visible. But it’s real.
You’ve been doing things. Learning things. Surviving things. Some of it will show up in your metrics and some of it is quietly building in the background, it’s just not visible yet.
Your efforts count. Even the ones no one sees.
My efforts count. Say it with me.
You’re not behind. You’re on your path. And your path is safe.
